Trash the Dress | Karisha & Kevin

One fun thing I love is when couples opt to do a trash the dress shoot.  It really never means that you are destroying your dress, but rather a chance to do a relaxed photo shoot after you’ve walked down the aisle.  I am super passionate about brides who don’t care about the bottom inch of their dress on their wedding day and even more excited about brides who do a trash the dress shoot.  It’s so wonderful to work with brides who truly understand that they are never going to wear their dress again and have fun in it while they can!

Karisha and Kevin did this shoot a few days after their August 4th wedding last year.  While Kevin did wear his Dress Blues for part of the wedding day, this shoot really gave them an opportunity to celebrate his military service (he’s in the Marines).  I love how the session turned out!  I think that Temescal Gateway park was the perfect setting, not distracting, and a chance for the couple to be alone with each other.  Love it!  Enjoy!

UCLA Engagement Photography | Malaika & Kyle | by Melanie

Malaika and Kyle met while living in the dorms at UCLA.  So it was only fitting that they go back to where it all began for their engagement session!

Kyle is starting business school after their June wedding and Malaika is looking at nursing school programs as well.  So they are quitting their jobs shortly before their wedding and taking an extended honeymoon around the world to South Africa, Great Britain, and the Greek Islands before they move to Chicago and settle into school!  What a whirlwind the next few months are going to be!

Which is why it was so great to be able to have Melanie connect with them before their wedding day at a location that means so much to them.  They had a wonderful afternoon wandering the grounds and visiting their old haunts!  They even brought the best props with them to tell the story of how they loved to grab coffee at a shop on campus and their honeymoon books.  A tribute to the past and a look to the future!  Love it!  Melanie had such a wonderful time getting to know Malaika and Kyle better before their nuptials.  And I love how awesome their session turned out!  Can’t wait to see their wedding photos!  Until then, enjoy!

Abbot Kinney & Santa Monica Engagement Session | Neilani & Raul

03.22.13

Neilani and Rudy’s engagement session was so much fun.  We started at Hal’s on Abbott Kinney, the bar they first met at!  We continued to a lot of fun spots along the street before heading north a bit into Santa Monica.  We stopped at such a cool wall with “You are beautiful” on it.  Rudy had texted a photo of it to Neilani early in their relationship!  How cute, right!??!  We ended the session down the street at the beach with Santa Monica Pier in the background to mark where the couple lives.  I love how person the locations were to them!  It makes the photos mean so much more!  Not only were they super fun, but their 18 month old son, Max, tagged along to jump into the shoot too.  My favorite is the crazy face they’ve taught him to make and all make together!

Their May wedding is going to be such a blast!  I am so excited to explore their venue and shoot their wedding!
